Hills Leghorn, or Monti Leghorn, include a system hillside that rises to the south - east of the city of Livorno. The area also includes the municipalities of Rosignano Maritime and Collesalvetti. In antiquity the mountains behind Livorno were islands in the middle of the sea, and now form part of a natural reserve of considerable importance, composed of a dense bush with Mediterranean pine trees, olmi, heather, and cork oaks, but also poplars, ash and willows, while fauna consists of wild boars, foxes and weasels. The hilly part of the group is part of north-western shore giving rise to an impressive promontory, which are some beautiful fortifications as the Boccale Castle and the Tower of Calafuria.
